Lake
Hamilton is located in the Western District town of Hamilton
south west of the Grampians ranges.
Covering
some 25 hectares, this popular lake was constructed in 1977
by damming the Grange Burn Creek.
Permitted activities include fishing, sailing, rowing, windsurfing,
canoeing and swimming.
A
walking-cycling track surrounds the lake and, at the end of
Rippons Rd (which runs off Ballarat Rd), there is a beach, playground
and picnic-barbecue area.
A boat launching ramp is provided.
Fishing
Contains Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Golden Perch, Estuary Perch,
Tench
and Redfin.
Stocked Fish: The lake is stocked annually with brown trout
and rainbow trout.
Stocked with golden perch in 1983-88. Poor returns to anglers
although fish grew to weights in excess of 5kg.
In 1999 the lake also received a trial stocking of estuary perch
fingerlings.
